By nothing other than a stroke of the Lord's Divine Providence, St. Augustine is located on one of the most desirable pieces of property conceivable for student housing in the city. The corner of S. Hickory St. and Pine St. is the main entrance not only to the University of Wisconsin Platteville, but also to the St. Augustine Newman Center. We are also located directly between the University and the Main Street business district of Platteville (which is only two blocks away)!
The timeless look of collegiate gothic architecture identifies the buildings on the future St. Augustine Newman Center Campus. Students will live in proximity to Blessed Sacrament in the chapel and the Newman Center. This will make Bible studies, Newman Dinners, multiple weekly events, student programming, and a vibrant Catholic community all accessible within the confines of one city block.
Add to all of that, the downtown business district, many of the major UWP buildings, campus libraries, and the Markee Student Center are all a 5-minute walk away, and now you have the ideal residential location with everything that any student needs located just minutes away.
Two and four person units will be available. Our amenities such as in-apartment washer/dryers, student study lounges, and an on-site fitness center will make this 24/7 on-site managed apartment living the best choice for quality student housing anywhere near the UW-Platteville campus.
The view above shows the most recent vision of the layout of the block on which the new St. Augustine Newman Center campus will reside.
Very much so! We have learned that retaining upperclassmen is becoming more difficult due to the lack of quality off-campus student housing. UW-Platteville student housing is currently providing rooms for approximately 800 upperclassmen in campus residences. This can leave crowded conditions for freshmen and sophomores who are required to live in campus housing. Apartment housing like ours would give upperclassmen a high quality option near campus and help the university retain students who want more from their residential housing experience.
The student residence (Phase 2) will be funded through both private donations ($2M) and loaned equity from qualified accredited investors ($8M, the total is approximately $10M). If we can fundraise even more than $2M, then we can borrow less. The result is that more revenue will flow from the housing to help us become more self sufficient in providing high quality programs for the students.
In the ongoing evolution of the student residence, we recently received some early drawings of what the rooms in the student residence will look like. This gives a true view of what the 144 tenants living in Newman student housing can expect. We will have the only student residence of any kind in Platteville with washers and dryers in each unit and an onsite fitness facility. The 24/7 onsite-managed apartments will be a one of a kind for UW-Platteville students. And the location... SWEEEEEEET!

Both types of units will offer students quality, affordable housing at an incredible location right on the doorstep of campus!
