I was born and raised in the Chicago Suburbs and stuck around to attend college at Aurora University. I recently graduated AU with Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing and finished up my collegiate volleyball career. While graduating was a huge accomplishment for me, and I still believe the Lord wants me to be a Nurse eventually, I feel him calling me into deeper relationship with him and to be his missionary.
I was raised Catholic by my parents but I can’t say I ever fully committed to the faith outside of Sunday Mass and Religious education. College was the first time I started taking ownership of my faith and making it my own. Despite this, my college years still were filled with ups and downs. I made a lot of progress in strengthening my relationship with Christ but overall my prayer life could still be summed up with one word: lukewarm. Going to a small college with only 4,000 undergraduate students, getting seriously into my faith at school proved to be a challenge. My day was filled with countless academic and athletic commitments and the only options for student ministry were interdenominational groups that struggled with formation. It wasn’t the presence of FOCUS missionaries, but the lack thereof that made the difference. Having an older brother currently serving as a FOCUS missionary got me familiar with the work and peaked my interest. Months later, after interviews, discernment and getting to experience the Lord’s will firsthand, I accepted a position with FOCUS as a missionary!
Getting to make my relationship with the Lord my first priority in life has been something tremendously special. I believe that the best way to learn is to do. Which is exactly my plan! To go and be with students on college campuses and form strong bonds through Christ and deep friendship. This has been the most exciting chapter of my life yet and I can’t wait to see what Christ holds in store for me!
